About WMF
Mission Statement
WMF exists "to assist in the development of the music industry in Wales by way of specialist business support and industry led representation".
Our Objectives are:
- To create a support system for the development of a commercially viable Welsh Music industry
- To provide business support to music based SMEs and Start-Ups
- To encourage partnerships between existing music organisations and entrepreneurs
- To advise and assist policy makers including; WAG Creative Business Wales, The Music Business Forum and the Creative and Cultural Skills
- To maintain a specialist music business library for use by SMEs and Start-Ups
- To focus our resources efficiently with all of the above
Who are we?
WMF are a publicly-funded quasi trade organisation - capable of assessing the needs and wishes of the Welsh Music Industry and representing those to the Welsh Assembly Government, other “Team Wales” bodies, UK Government and music industry trade organisations and other committees or representational structures. We are core funded by the Welsh Assembly Government as part of their Creative Industry Strategy through Creative Business Wales.
Responsibilities
The maintenance and development of our WMF Stakeholder Group is one of our key responsibilities. The provision of support to our stakeholders, SMEs and Start ups includes all Welsh language music businesses where we continue to implement the work of WMF’s Welsh Language Strategy. Being so close to our stakeholders, indeed all welsh based music businesses, enables us to highlight appropriate opportunities to Creative Business Wales in terms of significant or major music projects. Furthermore, this qualifies us to best represent the Welsh Music Industry on The Music Business Forum, Creative and Cultural Skills, and other relevant bodies.
Services
WMF provides an information service capable of handling enquiries from Welsh music SMEs and start-ups. This also includes signposting to other relevant public sector or appropriate organisations. Our information service is supported by the production of the annual WMF Directory of Welsh music businesses. We also produce Welsh Talent CDs in association with Music Week.
