ESSENTIAL FOR ANYONE INVOLVED IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY IN WALES ...

Welsh Music Foundation proudly hosts a conference addressing key issues and topical subjects relating to the Welsh language music industry and beyond. Featuring guest speakers who will be covering themes ranging from getting your music on TV to festival organisation - the afternoon will also feature Q&A sessions – an excellent opportunity to have queries or individual issues addressed, and the day will of course serve as a great networking opportunity for delegates.

Topics and guest speakers

Eleanor Brody (music law specialist at IPS Law) and Rachel Wood of Woodwork Music (synchronisation and licensing specialists for independent record labels) will be detailing the legalities involved in music licensing for composers, performers, the media, event organisers and venue hosts. Eleanor has been involved in drafting and negotiating contracts and advising on rights issues across the whole spectrum of the music industry. Rachel of Woodwork Music boasts a vast client list and has placed music in hit US TV shows including CSI and The O.C.

With the live music scene more vibrant than ever in Wales, have you ever wondered what licenses you needed to organise your own? Since the Licensing Act was introduced in 2005, many people have been unsure of how to fully conform to new regulations, or how to obtain licenses. Phil Rafferty is the Senior Licensing Officer for Conwy County Council and he will be discussing the applications - problems and success stories - he and his team have faced as well as answering some of your queries regarding event licensing. Former Head Of Contemporary Music for Arts Council England Alan James is an expert festival organiser and music industry advisor and will be in attendance to offer his expertise.

Separately, in Cardiff on January 25 2008, Welsh Music Foundation also hosts a Welsh music industry conference in Chapter. The media’s Welsh language output will be discussed throughout the day along with subjects covering the digital music world including marketing, merchandising and the future of digital music. The conference in Cardiff features guest speakers from BBC Wales, Radio Cymru, S4C and 7 Digital, amongst others.

And to fully compliment the performance and live music theme, Dilwyn Morgan from the North Wales Events Commission and Steve Blake who has extensive experience in logistics, licensing and security at festivals and events, will be sharing experiences, offering guidance, hints and tips.

Sessions will be conducted in both the medium of English and Welsh language – translation facilities will be available.
