CAMPAIGN!

Welsh Music Foundation’s Campaign builds on work we've been carrying out on the industry's behalf for several years behind the scenes, encouraging wider use of Welsh music in the media and everyday life.

Wales has numerous radio stations and more and better locally produced TV than anywhere else in the UK. We've a healthy indigenous film industry and growing stature in new media and video games. All of these use music as an integral part of their productions, and we think more of that music should be from Wales

Supermarkets, telephone queues and half time at football matches all need music, and Wales is blessed with the musical talent to fulfil those needs.

WMF has already built strong relationships with both BBC Wales and S4C which has led both broadcasters to issue guidelines to the public and music companies in Wales regarding getting music broadcast.

Why is this so important? It comes down to one thing: copyright. Every time a piece of music is broadcast or played in public, the artist(s) who performed it, the songwriter(s) who wrote it and the record label and publisher they are signed to receive a small royalty payment. These small payments add up! Surely it's better for the economy in Wales if this money comes back to Welsh people and Welsh businesses?
